Reawakening Warriors
Reawakening Warriors utilizes self-defense & innovative curricula to rethink & redefine; what a warrior is, how it applies to SELF & Indigenous communities in our current time period while reflecting on their traditional ways.
Often, the term “warrior” is thought of violently - being thought of as synonymous with “violence”, “war”, and physical actions or appearances. However, a “warrior” in a traditional Indigenous view, was much more than violence, war, actions, or appearances.
From a traditional view, a warrior is someone who; takes care of the community, helps elders, supports women, and serves as a positive role model for others. All aspects which are often forgotten about in today’s society where the term “man up” is just as detrimental as the term “____ like a girl”.
Being a warrior isn’t about physically fighting, but fighting for; what is right, for those who cannot speak for themselves, and for the betterment of your community. It is not about how many people one intimidates, but rather the amount of people one inspires.
Reawakening Warriors is focused on youth males primarily. This is due to many different factors, including:
-Oftentimes a lack of positive community role models
-Influential age where one’s view of; women, the world, and a warrior are not yet shaped.
-The youth are our future - the next generation of warriors who will teach the ones behind them.
All these aspects are coupled with self-defense, physical activities, and discussion on SELF and Indigenous communities in our current time period while reflecting on their traditional ways.
In turn, Reawakening the Warrior.
